ElevenLabs SFX v2: FAQ
ElevenLabs SFX v2 generates short sound effects from a text description, ideal for foley, ambience, transitions, and spot effects.
1. What is ElevenLabs SFX v2?
It is a text-to-sound-effects model. You describe a sound and it generates a short isolated audio clip. It is built for individual sound elements, not full music or spoken narration.
2. How do I prompt it?
Write a specific description of the sound, up to 500 characters. Be concrete about the source and character of the sound: environment, material, intensity, and perspective (for example "heavy wooden door slamming shut in a stone hallway, close perspective").
3. How long can a sound effect be?
Duration is set in seconds, from a minimum of 5 seconds up to a maximum of 22 seconds. The default is 10 seconds. This range is strictly enforced.
4. What is it good for?
Foley, ambience, transitions, and spot effects: animal sounds, impacts, environmental beds, UI sounds, and other short isolated audio elements. It generates quickly, which suits iterating on a specific sound.
5. What is it not for?
Music and speech. For songs or musical beds use the music model, and for voice or narration use text-to-speech.
