Uni-1.1: FAQ

Updated by Martin

1. What is Uni-1.1?

Uni-1.1 is Luma's strong general-purpose image model (the superset of the older Uni-1). It peaks at cinematic realism, manga/anime/webtoon art, and sketch-to-image, and comes in two tools: one for creating new images and one for editing existing ones.

2. What can Uni-1.1 do (create vs modify)?

  • Create Image (Uni-1.1): generates a new image from a text prompt, optionally guided by reference images. Use it to extract a style, character, object, or mood from references and recreate it in a new scene.

  • Modify Image (Uni-1.1): transforms an existing source image while keeping the scene consistent (same composition, angle, subject), changing time of day, lighting, weather, season, color grading, or adding/removing elements. Source dimensions are preserved automatically.

Rule of thumb: if the output should look like a modified version of the input, use Modify; if it's a new scene inspired by references, use Create.

3. What aspect ratios are available?

Create supports 11 ratios:

  • 16:9, 3:2, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4, 2:3, 9:16

  • Wide/tall: 3:1, 2:1, 1:2, 1:3

Modify preserves the source image's dimensions rather than taking a ratio setting.

4. What styles does Uni-1.1 support?

  • auto (default): general-purpose rendering, strong at cinematic realism.

  • manga: manga/anime/webtoon comic art. Manga requires a portrait aspect ratio (3:4, 2:3, 9:16, 1:2, or 1:3).

5. Can you use reference images with Uni-1.1?

Yes:

  • Create: up to 9 reference images for style/content guidance.

  • Modify: a source image plus up to 8 references (9 total). Modify works best with a single source image; for multiple references, prefer Create.

When using references, describe in the prompt what to borrow from each image (style, character, pose, or composition).

6. Can you reproduce the same result?

Yes. Uni-1.1 supports a seed: set a fixed integer to reproduce the same output, or leave it empty for a random result each time. Note: a seed only reproduces the same output when every other input matches (prompt, aspect ratio, style, and references); change any of them and the same seed yields a different image.

7. What output formats are available?

  • PNG (lossless)

  • JPEG (smaller file)
