Nano Banana Pro: FAQ

Updated by Martin

1. What is Nano Banana Pro?

Nano Banana Pro is the premium tier of the Nano Banana family: high-quality text-to-image and reference-guided generation, with strong text rendering and consistent characters and styles. It excels at photorealistic content, product imagery, and general creative work, and handles both creating new images and editing existing ones.

2. What resolutions does Nano Banana Pro support?

  • 1K (fast)

  • 2K (balanced, default)

  • 4K (highest quality, slower; good for print)

3. What aspect ratios are available?

  • 21:9 (cinematic / ultrawide), 16:9, 3:2, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4, 2:3, 9:16

Note: it does not support less-common ratios like 4:5 or 5:4. On edits, input dimensions are preserved (no aspect ratio change).

4. Can you use reference images?

Yes, up to 14 reference images, with a structured budget:

  • Up to 6 images of objects for high-fidelity inclusion in the final image

  • Up to 5 images of humans to maintain character consistency

  • Remaining slots for style, pose, or composition references

On edits, that's 1 source plus up to 13 references. When using two or more, label each image's role in the prompt (style, character, pose, or composition reference).

5. What is Nano Banana Pro best at?

  • Character and style consistency across multiple images, which makes it a workhorse for building recurring assets for campaigns and video projects.

  • Text rendering in-image.

  • Photorealistic and product imagery.

Note: it accepts alpha in input reference images for context, but its output is always opaque (no transparent backgrounds).

6. Create vs Modify?

  • Create Image (Nano Banana Pro): generates a new image from a prompt, optionally reference-guided, with full aspect-ratio control.

  • Modify Image (Nano Banana Pro): edits an existing source image at high quality; preserves input dimensions. For pose or expression changes on a recognizable character it holds identity well, though for exact face copy-paste on unfamiliar people, GPT Image 2 is stronger.
